Honoring One Year: A Tribute to Resilience and Beauty
This weekend, we celebrated our first anniversary—a milestone we couldn’t have reached without the incredible community surrounding us. As part of the celebration, our CEO shared a powerful poem that reflects not only our journey as a business but also the essence of what we stand for as BaKi Beauty:
Ode to Black Excellence
The greatest gift to mankind is the black woman
Her locked and kinky tresses down her head as a crown
Her melanin the color of Mama Africa herself glistens as gold to my eyes
Her empathy is as deep as the ocean blue, whose depth we have yet to uncover
Carries the plight of a people rising from the ashes of their trauma
Nurtures generations whose future seems condemned to the Glock or the Cell
Yet her love despite the pain inspires
Her love liberates like Muthoni Kirima
Her love educates like Chimamanda Adichie
Her love continues to give without recognition
So today, we recognize
These lines resonate deeply with us, as they encapsulate the beauty, strength, and resilience of the community we aim to serve and uplift. The Black woman is at the heart of our purpose—a symbol of grace, strength, and boundless love. This first year has been about honoring that purpose, onboarding products and experiences that celebrate her beauty and nurture her spirit.
Our journey hasn’t always been easy, but like the Black woman described in the poem, we have embraced each challenge with resilience and optimism. We’ve built a team committed to providing Black women in Africa with a world-class beauty retail experience that is inclusive, empowering, and of the highest quality and we’re only just beginning.
As we move forward, this poem will serve as a guiding light. Each line reminding us why we started this journey and why we’ll continue with even more determination. We’re inspired by the powerful women in our community—the ones who, like Muthoni Kirima and Chimamanda Adichie, lead with love, courage, and wisdom.
